Greetings from the Dean
Welcome to the School of Business and Economics! We are a proud member of the Indiana University family. We are accredited by AACSB International, the premier accrediting agency for business schools, which ensures that you will receive a quality education. I invite you to meet our dedicated faculty and staff and encourage you to explore our programs offering real business experience and cutting-edge content in flexible formats designed to fit your schedule.
One of the qualities that sets us apart is our focus on Teamwork and Leadership. Not only will you learn fundamental business principles, but you will also gain the skills to become an effective critical thinker, leader, and team member, all of which are necessary for your success in the world of business. We believe that one of the best ways to learn is through experience and our programs provide wonderful opportunities for you to work in teams, experience business simulations, pursue internships, study abroad, consult with small businesses, perform research with faculty members, and work on community service projects. We have a dynamic trading floor and student managed investment fund which brings to life the world of financial markets. Our student run store, the Red Hawk Enterprise, is a great opportunity to apply everything you are learning in real time. Our VITA program is a tax preparation service that our accounting students provide to local residents. Our MBA program is routinely recognized as the best in the region. Our small class sizes allow you to get to know your professors.
As you move through the program, we will help you prepare for the next step in your career by offering opportunities such as the personal assessment program, networking events with local businesses and alumni, and internships. In many cases, internships or networking events lead to the first job. There are great career opportunities right in this region.
Our faculty are committed to your success and are great teachers, mentors, and role models. Several have won awards recognizing their teaching excellence. Many have business experience in addition to their academic training, are actively engaged in our community, and have led projects that help our business partners as well as the regional economy grow. In many cases, our students are able to work with them. My colleagues are also accomplished scholars who regularly present their research at conferences as well as publish articles, chapters and books on topics related to their field. You can even find them contributing to our local media outlets.
We are delighted to be fully back on campus and have planned many exciting opportunities for you to get even more involved, ultimately enriching your learning and deepening your experience even more. Please explore our clubs and programs - there is something here for everyone! Our STARS peer mentoring program is a way for you to connect, learn strategies for success, and develop lasting relationships. We love our diverse student body, and you can be assured that you will be welcome here. We consider our diversity a strength and studies have shown that learning in a diverse environment better prepares someone for success in our increasingly diverse and global business world.
I encourage you to explore our website or stop by for a visit. You can follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. I would love for you to become a RedHawk and experience an excellent education right in our region!
