We offer a very exciting program for IU Northwest students. We help students identify their developmental needs with respect to certain life skills that are helpful to students as they progress through college and enter the workforce. We place students into work related simulations that allow them to see what it is like to be in the workplace. Their performance is then evaluated by business leaders from the community. One of the key concepts of this program is that students learn what skills they should develop more fully from the employers who they will one day be handing their resumes to!
Students participating in the Assessment Center can then use that feedback to choose courses and extracurricular activities that develop those skills. These students will leave IUN better prepared for the workplace!

- Critical thinking
- Written communication
- Interpersonal communication

These competencies will be evaluated using seven exercises:

- Client role play
- Coaching role play
- Supervisory role play
- Leaderless group discussion
Students will complete the Assessment Center in their freshman year and in their senior year.
The development plan will establish goals for improving deficits using coursework and other Indiana University Northwest activities. Lastly, Indiana University Northwest will use the Assessment Center data to modify coursework to further benefit the students and better prepare them for the workplace. Students will prepare a development plan based on the feedback from the Assessment Center.
Become a Rater
Would you like to become an Assessment Center Rater?
The Indiana University Northwest Assessment Center calls upon experienced business people to observe student performance and provide feedback on specific skills. We enlist the help of those with executive, managerial, human resources, or employee recruitment experience.
As a Rater, you will watch videotapes or read Word files created by students involved in a work-related role play. You will take notes of their behavior and then complete a structured assessment instrument. All of this is done online so you can complete the evaluations at your convenience. Although most Raters will assess around 20 students per semester, with each assessment taking around 30-45 minutes, how many students you assess is entirely up to you and your availability. You will complete an online training program before you begin assessing students.
We provide the student a feedback report containing comments from all of the Raters who assessed that student. We also use Rater scores for research purposes. Because we will be obtaining research information from you, federal law requires you to sign an Informed Consent Statement prior to participating in the Assessment Center. If you would like to become a Rater, please read the following consent form, complete the required fields, and submit this form. An Assessment Center staff member will contact you.
