Campus, community welcome to participate in dance workshop, discussion on art, social justice and Latinx culture
Members of Ballet Hispánico, the largest Lantinx/Latine/Hispanic cultural organization in the country, are coming to Indiana University Northwest for a day of programming on Monday, February 27, 2023.
During their visit to the Northwest campus, members of the dance organization will host a dance workshop, watch party and Q&A, along with a discussion on the interconnections of art, social justice and Latinx culture. Their visit comes just days before Ballet Hispánico will perform their first full-length narrative ballet at IU Bloomington on Friday, March 3.
Ballet Hispánico—based in New York City—has three main programs: the Company, School of Dance and Community Arts Partnerships. The organization promotes inclusion, breaking stereotypes and celebrating the beauty and diversity of Hispanic cultures through dance and creative expression. Ballet Hispánico’s mission is to open a platform for social change and see a community in its fullness.
All Ballet Hispánico events hosted on IU Northwest’s campus are free and open to the public, though you must RSVP to each event by Wednesday, February 22.
All events will take place on February 27, 2023.
Latin Social Dance Workshop

Watch Party and Discussion
1-2 p.m. • Bergland Auditorium
Enjoy a meaningful and inspiring recorded performance by Ballet Hispánico, followed by an in-person discussion and Q&A with visiting leaders from the nation’s renowned Latinx dance organization. Free, RSVP required.

IU Northwest, the most diverse of all IU campuses, is a federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution. It is the only public comprehensive institution of higher education in Indiana with this designation. This allows the Northwest campus, which student body is composed of 25% Hispanic and 15% African American students, to access additional funding to improve the lives of all students. Previous funds have gone directly to students as financial aid, been used to establish a new STEM Center on campus, allowed the addition of more academic support services and more.
