Indiana University Northwest's Department of Performing Arts proudly announces the upcoming performance of August Wilson's Two Trains Running, directed by Gary native and esteemed director Mark Spencer. The production, opening Nov. 9, is a collaboration between IU Northwest and The West Side Theatre Guild.

“The production promises to be a celebration of community, culture and the enduring relevance of Wilson's work,” Spencer said. “Collectively, IU Northwest and The West Side Theatre Guild share a deep commitment to making a lasting impact in the community, which, in the end, will create a theatrical experience that goes beyond the stage.”

Two Trains Running was chosen specifically for its powerful message of unity.

The production takes place in 1969 within a diner located in Pittsburgh's Hill District, a neighborhood experiencing much transition, and owned by an individual named Memphis. The restaurant serves as a gathering place for a host of regulars: an elder who imparts wisdom from a local sage, an ex-con, a numbers runner, a resident intellectual, a laconic waitress and a persistent man seeking his due.

“In a world where divisions persist, Two Trains Running serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the positive change that can be achieved when communities unite,” Spencer said.

Performances of Two Trains Running will take place on the Arts and Sciences Mainstage Theatre located on the IU Northwest campus. The performances will take place during the following dates/times:

  • Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m.
  • Monday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m.
