Placement Testing Frequently Asked Questions
No, you are already admitted to IU Northwest, these tests do not affect your academic record or your admission to university.
The English portion is a seventy-five minute essay response that can be completed in any location. Math placement is determined through evaluation of the Admissions material. If it is determined that you need to take in-person math placement or do not believe that your result is reflective of your current skill, you can arrange to take the test.
Students may also need to complete biology and/or chemistry based on their majors.
English placement is available at any time through Canvas. Spring semester in-person math placement will begin in April.
Please call 219-980-6830 to schedule your test.
If you have already completed a college level math or English class with a grade of C or better you will not need to take that portion of the test. In order for us to remove your placement hold,we need to have an official copy of the transcripts from the college(s) through which you completed the class. These can be sent to us electronically [[admit2]]. If you took an AP test then we need a copy of your score report.
If you are still currently taking the class and do not have a final grade as of yet, we recommend taking the placement test now so you can register for classes sooner. Once your dual credit class is completed, order your official transcript(s) from the college(s) upon receipt, we will transfer in any applicable credit to your IU transcript. The placement test will then become null and void when the credit is transferred in. If you have taken any dual credit classes or ACP through IU, you do not need to send transcripts but please make us aware.
