Competing Schools
Purpose
The Steel City Black Bowl is an academic competition held for high school students. In this academic competition, student teams from Northwest Indiana High Schools answer questions based on African American history, life, and culture. This event embodies the essence of purposeful learning and growth, aligning with the values we hold dear in our educational community. Mr.Roy Hamilton, local post-secondary Education professional, and Mrs.McKenya Dilworth-Smith of Morning Bishop Theatre Playhouse presented the idea of such an academic competition for students to Indiana University Northwest. The Black Knowledge Bowl is grounded in the fifth principle of Kwanzaa, which is Nia (Purpose). It involves working towards the restoration of the greatness of our people and learning about our leaders and the proud history of our community.
I feel respected, I feel honored, and I'm grateful to God for the opportunity.
Greer Adams, 15, 21st Century Charter School
