Background

The inspiration for the One Book...One Campus...One Community reading initiative was inspired out a similar program hosted on the IU Northwest campus from 2006 until 2010.

Since January 2013, the One Book...One Campus...One Community initiative has introduced a different novel for the campus and community to reflect upon the themes, messages and learning points of one book for a selected period of time.

The selected book for the inaugural program was "The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates,"  a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller by Wes Moore. The following selections have been the focus of subsequent years:

2014-15 -- "The New Jim Crow" by Michelle Alexander

2015-16 -- "Operation Homecoming" edited by Andrew Carroll

2016-17 -- "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot

2017-18 -- "Conflict is Not Abuse" by Sarah Schulman

2018-19 -- "Women and Power: A Manifesto" by Mary Beard

2019-20 --  "They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us" by Hanif Abdurraqib

2020-21 --  "The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable" by Amitav Ghosh 

2021-22 --  "Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People" by  Anthony Greenwald and Mahzarin Banaji

2022-23 -- "Waking Up White, and Finding Myself in the Story of Race" by Debby Irving
