## Placement

MATHEMATICS PLACEMENT:

If admitted student’s record shows that he/she is in risk of testing into the lowest MA101 math level, then he/she is required to attend free 2hr workshop **STEP** before taking mathematics **placement exam**.

Students who tested into the lowest MA101 math level on the IU Northwest math placement exam need to refresh their math skills by first taking the class MATH-M 15. After satisfactory completion of this course work, students will be allowed to register into MATH-A 100 and complete the remainder of their math requirements.

Students who tested into MA102 on the IU Northwest placement exam are allowed to take IU Northwest course MATH-A 100 (Fundamentals of Algebra). This is a prerequisite course that does not satisfy the College of Arts and Sciences distribution requirements nor general education mathematical reasoning requirement.

Students who tested into MA103 on the IU Northwest placement exam are allowed to take IU Northwest course MATH-M 100 (Basic Mathematics), or MATH-M 117 (Intermediate Algebra), or MATH-T 101 (Math for Elementary Teachers).

The newly re-designed **Math Department web pages** contain more details, including the **flow chart** of math courses, **courses description**, and the list of **math classes required by major**.
