If a cadet decides to pursue a commission in the Army, they will be enrolled in the advanced program and begin to collect the $420/month, non-taxable stipend given to all contracted cadets. Much of a cadet’s involvement during their junior (MSIII) year will be leadership training in preparation for Advanced Camp, a 37-day leadership course held at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
This training, held in the summer before a cadet’s senior year, is the challenging and exciting culmination of their first three years in ROTC. Under the watchful eye of experienced officers and NCOs, ROTC Cadets undergo realistic training and evaluation on Army weapons systems, tactics, and leadership. Leadership skills will be cultivated and enhanced. Senior (MSIV) cadets apply the skills they learned at Fort Knox when they return to campus for their final year, as they lead and train the three classes of cadets behind them.
Senior cadets are given cadet officer positions and assigned the tasks of planning, executing, and assessing training and events for the rest of the cadets in the Battalion. This final phase of training has proven to be a highly successful tool in the development of young Army Officers.
Giving ROTC a try is as easy as registering for any other university course. If you are an incoming first-year student, simply add Military Science (MIL G101) to your list when registering for courses.
